Monday, November 8th, 2021

Enbridge, a large oil transportation company has made itself known by local northern British Columbia communities. Enbridge has been transporting oil on tanker ships throughout the Kitimat Fjord system. This system is located on the territory of the Gitga’at First Nation people. Recent protests from the Prince Rupert residents have made the company aware of the consequences of their actions against the local British Columbia waters. Those consequences mainly being ocean pollution which has affected the local community and the ocean life. In light of the local protests and realization of the negative environmental impact from the company’s oil tankers the company has officially retired it’s participation in fossil fuels and other non renewable resources. With energy technology expanding and expanding Enbridge has decided that it would be best for the company, for the people of Prince Rupert and the rest of British Columbia, and for the health of the planet to explore renewable energy sources. Instead of focusing on transportation of fossil fuels the company will now be shifting its focus entirely by opening renewable energy programs with clients within their area of usage to avoid the transportation which could damage the environment and contribute to the onslaught of climate change.

Al Monaco, the CEO of Enbridge has released a statement concerning the company’s decision to shift focus in operations from fossil fuels to renewable energy. “We at Enbridge are deeply sorry for our actions against the ocean life of British Columbia. Here at Enbridge we deeply believe that safety and respect are extremely important when it comes to the way we handle our business. We hope to regain your respect in the near future as we work towards reducing our carbon footprint and our pollution within your waters.” Al Monaco refers to the company values while addressing the public and their future intentions in the oil industry. Monaco has been a valuable leader within Enbridge and the oil industry since 2001.(enbridge.com)
